It is suitable wherever a good level of wine knowledge is required to underpin job skills and competencies, for example in the customer service and sales functions of hospitality, retailing and wholesaling industries. Successful candidates will be able to describe and compare the styles of wines produced from internationally and regionally important grape varieties, interpret wine labels from the main wine producing regions of the world and give basic guidance on appropriate selection and service, as well as understand the principles of wine tasting and evaluation.

This course introduces students to the wealth of Italian native grape varieties that are fundamental to comprehending Italy’s complex and fascinating wines. The focus on native grapes as well as regional appellations sets this course apart from many others and provides unique depth of knowledge and understanding.
Precursor, Italian Wine Maestro is the starting course to the higher level course, the Italian Wine Ambassador qualification. Ultimately, the Vinitaly International Academy (VIA) qualifications aim to be the gold standard of Italian Wine Education, under the guidance of its founder Stevie Kim, VIA Chief Scientist Prof. Attilio Scienza and supported by the Institutional Advisory board members.

This program aims to develop a group of highly knowledgeable and skilled specialists who are able to speak and write about Italian wines with authority and will be credible representatives of the Vinitaly International Academy. Students may include but are not limited to, sommeliers, trade professionals, wine buyers, educators and wine writers. Though VIA focuses and believes in a grape variety study approach, ideally, students should come to the Maestro program with a basic understanding of viticulture and winemaking techniques, as this will not be covered in the scope of this course, and that knowledge is required in order to fully grasp the concepts covered in the VIA course. Prior wine education such as WSET level 2/ CSW/ ISG level 1/ or the Court of Master Sommeliers Introductory Level certification may be helpful but are not considered as prerequisites.

This course is an introduction to different types of cheese and demonstrate you the systematic approach to tasting cheese.
For Level 1 course, the class will feature 25 classic cheeses.
Level 1 course consists of 3 sessions, each 3 hours long.
The course features:
– Tutored tasting of minimum 12 classic cheese samples and 12 styles of wines.
– Practical cheese and beverage pairing

The qualification will assist those who are required to make professional evaluations of wines with regards to their style, quality and price.
The qualification provides the in-depth product knowledge required to underpin job skills and competencies, for example in product selection in the retail and hospitality sectors. Successful candidates will be able to describe the characteristics of the principal wines of the world and give information on the key factors influencing style, quality and price. They will consequently be in a position to advise management, to answer customer queries authoritatively, and to make informed selections of wines in a variety of situations.
